After being one-third of supergroup
KRU for more than 10 years, Yusry
has decided to venture on his own. Yeap, he's now gone solo.
Yusry Abdul Halim was born on 15 June 1973 and was first known to the
Malaysian music industry fans as the middle brother in KRU way back
in 1992. Together with his brothers Norman and Edry, they self-produced
all their 10 albums with their own distinctive musical style. Yusry
was fast garnering fans' attention, especially from teenage girls who
loved his good looks coupled with the quiet & shy persona.
Yusry is multi-talented - he's a composer, producer, music arranger,
director, graphics artist and more recently, an actor. He has written,
arranged and produced countless songs for KRU and also for artistes
under the KRU Music Group stable. He has also proved his directing
skills by directing music videos (namely by KRU, Indigo, X Factor, Juliana
Banos, Phyne Ballerz, Anita Sarawak, among others) and also TV programs
for KRU Motion Pictures (e.g. Pop TV, Let's Talk, Teen's
World and Lagenda Melayu).
To date, Yusry has acted in seven movies since 1995. The movies are
Awas (with KRU), Cinta Metropolitan
(with KRU), Gerak Khas the Movie 2, Mr. Cinderella,
Mr. Cinderella 2, Cinta Kolestrol
and Kuliah Cinta. There's no stopping for this 33-year-old
lad as he continued to film his latest movie, Hingga Ke Hujung
Nyawa alongside his wife, Erra Fazira.
When news spread that Yusry will record a solo album, his decision
was met with mixed responses from fans. Nevertheless, in July 2003,
he released his first single, Dekat Padamu. The song has also
been chosen to be the theme song for the movie Cinta Kolestrol,
which was released in September.
Yusry's self-titled debut album, produced by Edry, hit the shelves
on 7 August 2003. Trying to get away from the usual 'KRU sounds', the
concept of his album sways more to modern brit-pop (think Robbie Williams
and Ronan Keating) - focusing on more live music and instrumentation.
There are ten tracks in this album, most of them written by Edry, and
also by Ajai, Musrad and Neves of PrettyUgly.
Among the songs featured in the album are: Tertewas Lagi, Terbang
Tinggi, Warna Kehidupanku, Mengapa?, Bermimpi Lagi, Tamat, Jika Kau
Tiada, Hari Ini, 3 Minggu and of course, Dekat Padamu.
Yusry even did a duet with his wife Erra Fazira for the song Jika
Kau Tiada. It is included in Erra's new album & will be the
theme song for their movie Kuliah Cinta.
The video clip for Dekat Padamu was directed by Yusry himself,
where it was shot at locations around Kuala Lumpur and has clippings
from Cinta Kolestrol.
The song, on the other hand, reached the top spot on radio chart shows
even before the album was released! Dekat Padamu stayed at
Carta ERA's Number One spot for eight consecutive weeks, matching
Ezlynn's record for Hi Hi Bye Bye.
Yusry has definitely made his mark as a successful solo male singer.
Will there be a follow up album?
