INDIGO
After the major success of Elite, KRU signed on their second
act. The R&B contemporary outfit was Indigo
and they proved to be a talented vocal group.
Indigo, which comprises Badrul Izhan (Bad),
Mohamed Shahrin (Shah), Shahrul Nizam (Zam)
and Shazman Shahid (Shaz), released their first-ever
single, which is a remake of a Headwind classic, Suraya.
Intro was released in July 1997 and they enjoyed
success with Suraya, Rindu and also a chirpy track -
acapella style - titled Gadis Misteri. This earned them
nominations in Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) 1998
for Best New Artiste (Group) & Best Vocal Performance
(Group).
People began to take notice of their huge talent and the lads
in Indigo wasted no time to come up with their second album, Istimewa,
in 1998. This album is truly istimewa (special) for them
as they co-produced it and wrote some of the tracks as well. This
album has a lot of radio-friendly songs and it spawned singles
like the classic Andai Kau Pergi, Istimewa (featured
in the Silat Lagenda soundtrack) and Percaya
Asmara. Istimewa even made it to Juara Lagu
1999 and the video clip for the song was nominated for
the Best Music Video award in AIM 1999.
Episod 3 is their final album and was released
in year 2000. It was a greatest hits album and their 3rd
album has 3 new songs, 3 duets
(with KRU in Seperti Yang Ku Jangka, Juliana Banos in
Sehidup Semati and Masih Seperti Dulu with Faradiya).
At the same time, Indigo is left with 3 members
(since Shaz left the group) and it was their 3rd
year as Indigo. The duet with KRU, Seperti Yang Ku Jangka,
is AIM 2001’s nominee for the Song
of the Year award.
Indigo also contributed their vocals in the 10/10
album (2002), performing KRU's classic, Jangan Lafazkan
with their own distinctive style.
Definitely one of the talented all-male vocal groups in Malaysia.
