The genesis of Billy Zulkarnain is beyond necessity,
one of creativity and talent. For the record, the duo is perhaps to-date
the only one of its kind in Malaysia to take on the genre of soul-R&B-jazz-ballad
exclusively to a whole new level. Indeed, Billy Zulkarnain is bent on

Billy Zulkarnain’s distinctive sound is matured from the group
Phyne Ballerz; a protégé of KRU Music Group (KMG)
which surfaced at the turn of the millennium with a new brand of music
they called 'latin soul'.
Today the duo is the combined talents of two young
gentlemen, Billy (Sheikh Rabily Abdul Rahman, 29) and
Zulkarnain (Meor Zulkarnain Mohd Zamzuri, 24; formally
known as Nine); both of whom were the lead vocals and 'driving force'
behind the Phyne Ballerz brand of music.
From humble beginnings, Phyne Ballerz was more a product of passion;
for music and the drive to make it. Indeed, the foursome of Billy, Nine,
Munir and Beego sang because they all loved to do it. Their like-minded
creativity became the catalyst to perform at various gigs with fellow
underground acts like Ruffedge and VE at clubs around Kuala Lumpur.
Following from the success of Phyne Ballerz, this new
duo of Billy Zulkarnain aims to make new waves in the local music scene,
without excluding the bigger plan and dream of one day breaking into
international stardom.
Their self-titled album, Billy Zulkarnain,
was well-received by critics and fans alike. Hit songs from the duo
includes Hati Terluka, Kembali Lagi and Talian
Terputus.
